Many of you will turn to the more wild parts of London to relax and unwind. The nature reserves and parks in Islington can provide a welcome respite from the busy hustle and bustle of the city.
The natural world has been a huge influence to the cultural heritage of all societies. To celebrate the relationship between the natural world and our cultural heritage, I am pleased to announce Gillespie Park and the Ecology Centre's involvement in a unique and interesting project. Called HIBIKI, the series of events looks to celebrate Japanese music, exploring both its unique traditions and most famous modern performers. Japanese music is often influenced by the sounds of nature. In collaboration with renowned composer Andrew Peggie, Gillespie Park and the Ecology Centre will host a music workshop, looking to help people explore the natural sounds around them. The workshop will introduce people to japanese instruments, and give them the opportunity to compose a piece of music inspired by the natural sounds found within the nature reserve. Saturday 26th February 2011 12pm - 4pm Gillespie Park Ecology Centre, 191 Drayton Park, N5 1PH
The workshop is open to all members of the public and is free, however registration is important, to ensure there are enough resources available.
Please contact me at the Ecology Centre on 0207 527 8033 or matthew.loveday@islington.gov.uk to register a place at the workshop.
