The first census results for Islington show that 206,100 people were living in the borough when the census was carried out on 27 March 2011. This is 30,000 more people than were living in the borough when the previous census was held in 2001.Just over half (50.8%) of the borough population is female and 49.2% is male.Islington is a youthful population with a very large number of young adults. There are more 25-29s than any other five year age group. Fewer than one in ten residents is over 65. Six thousand people were living in ‘communal establishments’ and the remainder lived in 96,100 households.
