Men are being encouraged to apply for one of two Islington Older Peoples' Champions roles - by saying the one thing they would like to see change in Islington to help older people.Islington's Older Peoples' Champions were appointed in 2011 and have worked to represent the borough's 17,600 pensioners and give evidence to the council's older peoples' services. Older people make up 9 per cent of Islington's population. The position - previously held by Virginia Lowe - will be filled in the new year after prospective candidates have been shortlisted. Applications from men are welcomed. Islington has fewer men in the over 65 section of the population but the council is keen to recruit anyone who has understanding and experience of issues faced by older people. Current Older Peoples Champion Frances Davidson will continue to serve until June 2014. Part of her remit will be to promote older people, visiting community groups, the housebound and patients at Whittington Hospital. For further details see here.
