The London Crime Reduction Board launched its Partnership Anti-Gangs Strategy in 2012. Our mentoring scheme has now reached its target to pair 1,000 at-risk young Londoners with personal mentors, to help them steer clear of crime and reach their potential. Teenage homicide (13-19 year olds) has reduced from 29 in calendar year 2008 to 12 in calendar year 2013. Gun discharges have been cut by 45%. These real reductions in gang violence are also reflected in lower public concern regarding gangs.
This strategy from the Mayor of London reviews the evidence and lays out a pathway to tackle the problem in the future.
