It’s been a good couple of weeks for education in Islington with big improvements in this year’s GCSE and A-level results.
The borough’s best ever GCSE results were revealed yesterday. The figure for five A*-C grade passes stands at 74 percent this year compared to 65.3 percent in 2009. Early indications suggest this figure may have bettered the national average for the first time ever.
Half of students also achieved five or more GCSE passes at grades A*- C including both English and maths, a five percent rise on last year’s figures.
There were also celebrations all round last Thursday as students picked up their A-level results. The number of A*-C passes at Islington’s Sixth Form Consortium (made up of Highbury Grove, Central Foundation Boys School and Highbury Fields Girls School) has risen by 12 points to 61 percent.
The results are still provisional but show that the rapid climb in improvement for education in Islington is continuing.
